Silver Medal at the 47th WorldSkills Competition

Tokyo, September 17, 2024 – Hitachi High-Tech Corporation (“Hitachi High-Tech”) today announced that competitor from Hitachi High-Tech represented Japan at the 47th WorldSkills Competition, held from September 10th to 15th, 2024, in Lyon, France, won a silver medal in CNC* Turning.
This marks the first medal at the WorldSkills we have earned since the 45th WorldSkills Competition in 2019.

Our company has been sending representatives to the National Skills Competition for the long time with the aim of passing on technical knowledge and cultivating young engineers, and we also have continued to accumulate awards from the WorldSkills Competition. WorldSkills Competition

The WorldSkills Competition was first held in Spain in 1950 with the goal of promoting work training and fostering international exchange and friendly relations between young technicians from the participating countries. The competition is currently held once every two years. Participants must be 22 or under in the year of competition, and winners from the previous year's National Skills Competition can enter, excluding some events.

Competition Overview of CNC Turning

In CNC turning, a machine with a computer-controlled lathe is used to create ultra-fine specifications by fixing materials to the machine’s shaft and rotating them while controlling the rotation speed and the position. The machine is used to cut precisely and mass-produce parts with complex shapes in the competition. Competitors skillfully operate the machining equipment and create highly precise products with their skills of programming, imaging the machining methods and procedures based on the given tasks.
