Clementi and Changi elementary school (Singapore)

The CSR/Corporate Social Responsibility Department of Hitachi High-Tech and Hitachi High-Tech Singapore delivered lessons using tabletop electron microscopes at a Singapore Japanese school from November 6 to 10.
The Japanese school in question has two campuses in different districts, Clementi and Changi, and teaches around 500 children from the fourth to sixth grades of elementary school in 19 classes.
Lessons lasted for 45 minutes and consisted of a presentation focused on a comparison of electron microscopes and optical microscopes, the practical applications of electron microscopes, such as biomimetics, and an introduction to observation using samples previously submitted by the children.
The response during the lessons was very good, with the children asking questions such as "Can you use a microscope in space?" and "Are there any electron microscopes that can show color?" Questionnaires after the lessons at each campus showed high scores of at least 90% in all grades for degree of understanding and degree of interest aroused in students.

Hitachi High-Tech Singapore will consider future delivery of lessons for local schools in Singapore, as well as Japanese schools in Thailand, on the basis of these lessons.
