Electron Microscope Online Workshop with Tohoku University
Tohoku University, Miyagi Prefecture
2023/2/4
The Tohoku Branch Office has held an electron microscope workshop every year since FY2016 as part of a science workshop event organized by Tohoku University.
As was the case last year, we utilized the remote functions of the tabletop electron microscope TM4000 Plus II this year too. We held “Electron Microscope Workshop: Take a Look Through an Electron Microscope from the Comfort of Your Own Home” on Saturday February 4.
Ten children and students participated from the Kanto and Kansai regions as well as the Tohoku area, making this a nationwide event that put them in touch with the micro world. The participants operated the tabletop electron microscope located Hitachi High-Tech Headquarters from their own homes, and observed samples that had been sent to Headquarters in advance.
They asked many questions about the samples and how to use the electron microscope during the event, and we could see them earnestly taking notes. We were impressed to see them thoroughly enjoying science.
We received the following comment in the survey: “Using the electron microscope enables us to analyze structures in depth. Doing this can provide new manufacturing hints and help identify the root causes of problems, and I learned how indispensable the electron microscope is for Japanese monozukuri.”
The Tohoku Branch Office will continue to promote activities that support science education for children.
