Science Classes Using a Tabletop Electron Microscope at Elementary School in Dalian
Lingshui Elementary School, Dalian
2023/3/22
Hitachi Instruments (Dalian) Co., Ltd. held a science class using a tabletop electron microscope on March 22 at Lingshui Elementary School. 41 students from the fourth to sixth grades took part (21 fourth-graders, and 20 members of the school’s science club, from the fourth to sixth grades) as well as four teachers.
Lingshui Elementary School holds a science fair every year in March, and HID held science classes in March 2018 and 2019, before having to postpone further classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It had been three years since the last class. The children and the teachers were very impressed by the content of the class, which was given by two of our employees. Hitachi Instruments (Dalian) Co., Ltd. Managing Director and the school's headteacher shared their thoughts about this activity, and the latter praised it as “a wonderful activity.” It will also be featured in the school’s official account.
The class consisted of three sections: (1) a talk (including a quiz, information about the tabletop electron microscope, and practical uses of microscopes), (2) creation of samples using materials provided by the students (with help from Hitachi Instruments (Dalian) Co., Ltd. employees), and (3) a practical lesson (observing samples such as insects, sesame and pollen through the tabletop electron microscope).
Hitachi Instruments (Dalian) Co., Ltd. plans to hold classes for local schools next year as well.
