On June 1st, a bright, summer day, the children of China celebrated Children’s Day. And on that day, Hitachi High-Tech Scientific Solutions (Beijing) Co., Ltd. held a science workshop for the 45 elementary school third-graders at Beijing Futurecity Academy 11.

At the workshop, Hitachi employees prepared six samples of familiar items in everyday life: a hair, a surgical mask, a Nepal holly leaf, an ant, some lily pollen, and some flour. They then operated an electron microscope. By comparing observations using an optical microscope with those from the electron microscope, the children were able to explore the micro world and experience scientific knowledge from the perspective of their everyday lives.

We fired their interest in the electron microscope by explaining it in an entertaining way, and shared with them our Science is Fun booklet. The student's enjoyed their experience, and being able to operate the microscope themselves made for a Children’s Day they’ll never forget.
