Flower in the Desert
A passionate flower blooms between rugged rocks. In fact, the features in the image are gatherings of minute ice crystals which formed in the specimen chamber of a scanning electron microscope. The beauty did not last long: The rocks disappeared in the surrounding atmosphere of 10-3 Pa and temperatures below-85°C due to sublimation.
