Torch Relay -Succession of life-
This SEM image shows the inner surface of cap of a basidiomycetous carpophore of Hypsizygus marmoreus. Four basidiospores are confirmed on the fungal hyphae, as shown by the four spheres at the top of the fungal hyphae. Budding happens from these basidiospores, which leads to the formation of fungal hyphae that produce and spread their spores to create additional spores or offspring. Their living behavior is like a torch relay to keep succession of life.
