Stained glass
This is an atomic structure image of an advanced material (Y3Al5O12) which is expected to replace sapphire and quartz. Beautiful geometrical patterns formed by atomic arrangements make this picture look just like stained glass.
At 54th photo contest hosted by the Japanese Society of Electron Microscopy in 1998.
